BORDERLANDS tells the story of many economic refugees through the eyes of Jesus and Jorge.
Whilst Jesus was born and raised in the CIUDAD JUAREZ slum called Anapra, only 100 yards from the border fence, Jorge has travelled all the way from the south to the border city in orde to cross.
They share the dream of 'a better life' as an illegal alien in the US, as opposed to working for 7$ a day in the MAQUILADORA'S.
Timothy is a US Christian that lives with his family in the Anapra slum and helps to manage to the EL PASO based 'ANNUNCIATION HOUSE' that gives food & shelter the migrant, homeless, and economically vulnerable peoples of the border region.
The US BORDER PATROL at the same time is trying to prevent that the great number of economic refugees as well as drug traffickers enter the US.
The documentary was filmed at a time that in the Mexican border cities 'only' women were killed at random and with hardly any chance of finding the killers. Nowadays Ciuadad Juarez is on of the most deadly cities in the world because of the ongoing war of the drug cartels, who want to control as much of the illegal drug trade as possible.
